Back 2 Basics Dance Company is a Non-Profit Corporation that strives to provide education in partnered social dances through mini lectures in history to practical instruction in partnered dance. We teach privately as well as in group lessons and organize and host annual workshops with professional guest intructors that have taught worldwide. We strive to improve our community through dance by providing a healthy environment to learn manners and respect for individuals through dance.
As a leading provider of social dance instruction, we take pride in offering the best in dance. We are dedicated to serving the needs of our customers each and every day.
Patrick has over 14 years of social dance training and experience and Roxanne has over 9 years of social dance training and over 20 years of theatrical dance experience, of which includes having danced the original choreography of Jerome Robbins and Michael Bennett.
Patrick has formal education as a dance instructor from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. He currently holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Operations from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is currently working on a Bachelor of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management with a minor in dance and music and is interested in furthering his education in Kinesiology and Dance. He has begun research endevours in the historiy of Balboa and has accomplished writing papers on this subject and is striving to continue his research and writing goals on ths subject with eventually the end product of writing a book. Patrick is currently a member of the National Dance Education Organization.
Roxanne is currently employed as a Registered Nurse and Adjunct Faculty Instructor through the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has taught Ballroom Dance at Holy Rosary Academy and Lumen Christi High School in Anchorage, AK. This year, she developed a 2-week Swing Dance Sampler for one of the local high schools and worked on a project educating and promoting the importance of physical education to their health. She recently earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing through a completion program at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. Roxanne has 13 years of experience as a Registered Nurse mainly working on the clinical floors of acute care hospitals. With permission and assistance from the State of Alaska Department of Public Health and Department of Education and Early Development, her final quality improvement project for her BSN focused on improving the health of the Anchorage Community by raising awareness of health promotion and disease prevention at the high school level. She accomplished this by developing and presenting a class in raising awareness of caffeine ingestion and cardiovascular effects on adolescents and how they can make healthier choices. She attended the University of New Hampshire where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Dance and in May 2015, became a GPDIA (Global Professional Dance Instructor Association) Certified Teacher in West Coast Swing. Roxanne plans to continue her education towards a Master in Science degree by studying Applied Exercise Science: Fitness and Health Promotion through Concordia University Chicago.
Together they have been dance partners for the past 9 years, married in December 2014, have won first place in local competitions in addition to competing in competitions in the Lower 48. They have taken dance instruction from 4 time World Lindy Hop Champion Yuval Hod (NY, NY), World Salsa Champions Liz Lira (Choreographer for Dancing with the Stars) and Christian Ovieda (LA, CA), Benji Schwimmer (DWTS and winner of SYTYCD), US Open Champions Doug and Nicki Silton (Pasadena, CA and Gresham, OR), Bachata Caliente dancers Jorge Contreras and Leslie Ferreira (LA, CA), Dance Historian Joel Plys (San Diego, CA), Michael Kiehm-Starlight Dance Studio (San Diego, CA), Christy Cote (Santa Barbara, CA) and George Garcia (Honolulu, HI), Ron and Karla Montez (Tucson, AZ) and Canadian Champions Myles Monroe and Tessa Cunningham (Vancouver, BC, Canada).
Patrick and Roxanne plan on using their knowledge of Science and the Arts to benefit the mental and physical health of our community and would like to envision incorporating Dance as Therapy in the the near future.
